We won't be working on this (assuming that the Stretch Goal is made) until after we get KOBOLDS ATE MY BABY! IN COLOUR!!! to the press - but we hope to have this fun new toy at all of the conventions in 2014. 

9th Level is very happy to announce that we are a STRETCH GOAL for one of the Kickstarter Projects that we chose to "KICK IT FORWARD" with - THE CHOOSATRON. CHOOSATRON is a tabletop wireless thermal printer and high tech gamer toy - designed to play CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE games on paper (and with our help, other things). From the CHOOSATRON update made today - 9th Level is the next stretch goal, where Chris and Dan will be working with the CHOOSATRON team to build apps for the CHOOSATRON that will enhance your Kobolds Ate My Baby game – the KOBOLDTRON and the KOBOLD RANDOM HORRIBLE DEATH MACHINE.

The KOBOLDTRON will create random Kobolds for KAMB using the new charts and details from their upcoming (and recently Kickstarted) KOBOLDS ATE MY BABY! In Colour!!! Game. No fuss, no muss, instant Kobolds! The KOBOLD RANDOM HORRIBLE DEATH MACHINE will allow KAMB! Mayors to have randomly generated deaths spit out from the Choosatron at the push of a button – with lots of fuss, muss and hysterical cartoony death for all! ALL HAIL CHOOSATRON KING TORG!

FIREWORKS AND FIREDRILLS FROM 9th Level Games

First and foremost, we wanted to reach out to you all and say that we are behind on our production goals for KOBOLDS IN COLOR. Nothing to worry about, but our ETA and timelines are going to slip by at least a few weeks. 

You deserve better than excuses, and we hope that this update will provide you with a happy feeling that KAMB is coming, and better than ever. Part of the problem has been a series of outside of 9th Level events we couldn’t have predicted, but that’s not your problem. 

To keep us on track, and keep you informed, 9th Level will be issuing a bi-weekly status update. Since we hate when projects bombard us with updates – we will be posting these updates to the 9th Level Games website (www.9thlevel.com) and to the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AllHailKingTorg).

 We feel the extra time is necessary to ensure that the product that you receive is the best it can be – and we hope that the extra time spent is worth it to you. Here is a link with an example draft of a few pages in the new color/upgrade layout format.

NEW TIMELINE FOR KAMB IN COLOR!

We miscalculated the time required to get the book finalized – 1) because the Kickstarter took far more time to manage than we thought it would, and 2) editing and layout is taking more time that we thought it would and 3) we got caught up in the excitement of the KS and should have put more wiggle room in our estimates.

When we started this project, we had the original files and our proposed updates, what we didn’t realize was that we were going to have to completely redo the files in order to accommodate all of the changes (expanded charts, new rules, breakouts, and color art). Also, the file formats we had things in had to be jettisoned, and we had to start over from base text files. This has lead to a massive editing project (wherein we are updating rules and adding the additional content throughout, and hopefully making the book clearer, funnier, and better). The good things is that all of this work is making a better game and a better book – and we’re excited to get it done and in your hands.

We also totally underestimated the time AFTER the Kickstarter that would be necessary to fulfill immediate goals, work with vendors, manage backers, do taxes, blah, blah, blah. A lot of people have asked for our “lessons learned” and when this is all said and done I will be happy to spend time documenting that – but for now, let me tell you – Kickstarter is a full time commitment, and we were not in a place to devote full time to it. While we did our homework and thought that we knew what we getting into – the workload after the fact was far greater than we predicted (and that ate into time that we expected to be using to get books done). This put us behind schedule to start, and then when our real world lives got insane – this just put us over the edge. Things are getting better, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
